The whole purpose of this blog initially was to document the rise in popularity of guinea pigs over a period of time. A few years ago, you either liked dogs, cats or rabbits. Most people confused guinea pigs with gerbils or hamsters. Guinea pigs were pets people had when they were kids. And then came that advertising campaign by Egg and things started to change...

'Piggy' bank
Whilst on holiday down in Cornwall, I popped into a seemingly typical grockle shop in Padstow only to discover a veritable treasure trove of piggy related cards and gifts.
Amongst the treats were egg cups, salt and pepper shakers and this delightful money box.
Unfortunately I can't remember the shop name but do recall it being opposite the big pub with benches outside called the Chain locker or similar. So helpful, I know. The money box is also available at the winking cavy store priced £12.50.

I warned you about Etsy... Well, here's another one of my favourites, this time from poordogfarm. You just can't go wrong with a flat cap.

Proof that guinea pigs ARE clever
If products for children are anything to go by, then the popularity of guinea pigs is definately on the up. I found this beauty from kiddy favourite Charlie and Lola whilst perusing the wares of my favourite Clifton Village gift shop, Pod. What I love about this mug is the accuracy of the guinea pig depicted. Often representations of guineas show little resemblance to the real thing but on here it is done beautifully - it might even be a photo actually. Pod don't seem to have them on their online shop but I notice John Lewis have them for sale and they do free delivery too.

Linny of Wonder Pets fame
Clearly I'm in the wrong demographic for this show as I've never heard of Wonder Pets... but imagine my glee when I spied 'Linny' on the shelf of Toys R Us whilst in there looking for a new buggie. I almost purchased him there and then before remembering The Credit Crunch and sensibly putting my (guinea pig covered) purse away. But Linny is pretty cute and even comes in a even cuter smaller pocket version.

Baby T-shirt from Etsy
So, first of all Etsy. If you haven't been here then you need to. That's all I'm going to say. My love for Etsy has blossomed further at the discovery of the wealth of guinea-pig related homemadeness available for purchase. I'll need to keep an eye on myself or else this will just become an Guinea pig stuff on Etsy blog... Hmmm, not such a bad idea.
Anyway, the first of the Etsy posts is this delish -T-shirt/onesie from circlesandsquares. I love the unisexness of it in a world where so much baby-stuff is blue for boys and pink for girls.

Oh my gosh...
Imagine my excitement when I caught the end of Jo Wiley talking about Guinea pigs on radio 1. I was even more excited when she read out a listeners message alerting us to the new film, G-Force. Oh my gosh - WOW. It's in production at the moment but features specially trained guineas who are out to topple an evil nutter. If that wasn't exciting enough, the cast list is pretty good - Penelope Cruz and my fave Bill Nighey to name but two. Amazing. Should be here in the Summer. Can't wait! Find out more at the official website . I'm just over the moon that guineas are getting a whole film to theirselves. Finally, the attention they deserve.
